Squamish is well known as the "Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada" so there is lots to do outdoors in and around Squamish.

Following is a listing of just a few of the most common activities:

Walking

Squamish has an extensive trail system, many trails start within easy walking distance from Serratus Mountain Accommodations.

Hiking

Nestled on the flanks of Mount Garibaldi, Squamish is fortunate to be adjacent to one of the largest and most beautiful Provincial Parks in British Columbia. There are numerous day hikes and mutli-day backpacking trips to enjoy in this pristine wilderness area. For a quick day hike with majestic views, try the Stawamus Chief on top of which there is unobstructed views up the Squamish valley and out through Howe Sound.

Biking

There are over 100 mountain bike trails in the Squamish area. These range from easy beginner trails to the most extreme riding you'll find anywhere. Squamish hosts several major mountain bike races and many of our trails have been featured in mountain bike videos. In addition. there are great roadie rides of up to 50 miles on quiet and easy rolling paved country roads in the Squamish and Paradise Valleys and there is the bike park at Whistler just up the road.

Garibaldi Springs Golf Club is the newest Golf course in Squamish and offers a challenging 18 holes in a beautiful mountain setting. Reservations can be made for this public course year round. The Squamish Golf and Country Club features an enjoyable 18 holes along the banks of the Mamquam river. It has full clubhouse facilities and is open for public reservations year round.

There are several warm swimming lakes nearby including: Alice, Brohm, Cat and Browning Lakes. The Brennan Park recreation centre offers public swimming in their pool daily.

Nearby provincial parks include Garibaldi, Alice Lake, Stawamus Chief, Murrin and Porteau Cove. Alice lake is a great destination for picnicking with plenty of picnic tables and barbeque facilities right next to the beach.

There are several walking tours in the Squamish area including the West Coast Railway Heritage Park the BC Museum of Mining at Britannia Beach.

The Squamish area hosts many lakes, rivers and ocean fishing. Trout, Steelhead and Salmon are abundant.

There is a marina and boat launch in Squamish and a boat launch at Porteau Cove.  Great wind surfing and kite boarding, sea and white water kayaking, and river rafting can be found in the Squamish area.

There is seasonal eagle viewing and salmon spawning channels to explore. Don't be surprised if you see the occasional black bear as well.

There is an underwater marine park for scuba divers at Porteau Cove. In addition to an abundance of sea life, there are several underwater wrecks to explore.

Skiing

Squamish is just 30 minutes drive from Whistler offering the best downhill skiing in North America. Also, there is extensive alpine touring and cross-country skiing in Garibaldi Park and up the Callaghan Valley.

Rock Climbing

Squamish is synonymous with rock climbing. With the second largest granite monolith in the world at over 2000 feet tall and many more modest climbs, it is a climbers paradise.

If you prefer to enjoy the outdoors using motorized transport, there are hundreds of miles of open back-country roads suitable for 4-wheel driving, dirt biking or ATVing and in the winter, snowmobiling.
